Q: How does Submit Machine work?
Submit Machine accesses Internet Explorer and uses it to do all the submission work for you. You just have to tell Submit Machine what galleries to submit and where to submit them.
Q: What is required to run Submit Machine?
A: You'll need the .NET Framework 2.0, Internet Explorer 6 or 7, and Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Vista (with UAC disabled). Submit Machine does not work with Firefox...yet.
Submit machine runs on your home computer, not your web server. It does not need to be installed on your web server.
Q: Does the software 'phone home' or communicate with your server?
A: Nope. All Submit Machine information is stored on your local machine. No contact is made with any server beyond Internet Explorer opening web pages to perform submissions.
Q: Do I need to know HTML or anything else to use Submit Machine?
A: Submit Machine has several wizards to help you completely set up your own sites. Though, a bit of HTML knowledge never hurts in the rare case that the wizards can't completely set up the site.
Registration
Q: Can I use Submit Machine on more than one computer?
A: Submit Machine is limited to one machine per license, though we are happy to provide multiple licenses for additional computers for your own personal usage. Simply contact us after your purchase (with your additional authentication key) and we can provide you with extra licenses.
Q: I get an error about an invalid registration key. What happened?
A: Your registration key is tied to your computer. If your hardware changes, you may recieve this error. Please contact customer service with your new Authentication Key and we will send you a new registration key ASAP.
Q: I'm installing / re-installing / upgrading / downgrading my operating system. Will I need a new registration key?
A: No, as long as you are still using the same computer.
Software Problems
Q: I'm using Windows Vista and two windows are popping up for each submission - a blank window and a normal window and neither do anything. Whats wrong?
A: For the time being, Submit Machine must be run with UAC turned off and may also need to be run with administrative priveleges.
There are several ways to turn UAC off - The easiest is to go to Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Other Security Settings > Turn UAC Off, and restart your computer.
To run Submit Machine with administrative priveleges - Go to C:\Program Files\Submit Machine\ (or wherever you installed Submit Machine), right click dwsubmitter.exe, and click 'Run as administrator'.
Q: After I click Submit, all that comes up in IE is an about:blank page. Whats wrong?
A: Click Start... Run, and copy/paste this command:
Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
Click OK. You should receive a message that says "DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\System32\ole32.dll succeeded".
It shouldn't harm anything, and ought to the fix the problem. The Ole32.dll sometimes is not registered correctly in the windows registry and Submit Machine needs this to communicate with Internet Explorer. This might not work (but won't harm anything either) in Windows Vista.
Q: I'm reinstalling / uninstalling / upgrading Submit Machine - will I lose all my data?
A: No. If you uninstall, the files containing your data will still stay in the installation directory. To upgrade Submit Machine, simple execute the new installer you've downloaded. Your data will be fine.
Q: How can I backup ALL of my data in Submit Machine? (not just galleries and sites)
A: Exit the program and go to the folder where you installed Submit Machine (usually C:\Program Files\Submit Machine\). Copy the two files named 'submitmachine.sdf' (contains all of your data) and 'Options' (contains all settings) someplace safe. Thats it! To restore your data, just copy those two files back into the installation directory.
